Ananth Nag pursued graduation with a bachelor's degree from Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and began working as a software engineer.

He was interested in arts which led him to pursue a course in cinematography at Mindscreen Film Institute managed by Rajiv Menon.

Ananth Nag also took photography classes from Dinesh Kumble. Ananth also worked as an assistant cinematographer in movies and short films. He met the director Alphonse Putharen while working as an assistant director. So this is how he got a small role like guest appearance in Putharen's first film ‘Neram’ released in 2013.
